History

Personal History		2343: Elesa Zahne is born on board the USS Constellation. 2346: Elesa and her family relocate to Deep Space Five. 2353: Aran Zahne, Elesa’s brother, is born on Deep Space Five. 2359: Elesa Zahne enters Starfleet Academy aged only 16 years. Elesa trains in the ‘security division of Starfleet, with additional ‘command track’ training. 2369: Elesa becomes joined to the ‘Zal’ symbiont. She immediately leaves her current posting on board the USS Majestic to pursue a career in Starfleet Intelligence. 2372: Elesa leaves Starfleet Intelligence to begin her long career in strategic operations. 2374: Elesa begins her first term as Chief of Starfleet Operations on Earth at the height of the Dominion War. She witnesses the Breen attack on San Francisco in 2375. 2377: Elesa is reassigned to the USS Venture as its commanding officer, replacing Commander Paul Sutherland who remains as her executive officer. Although at first their relationship is frosty due to Sutherland’s unexpected demotion, Paul and Elesa eventually become close friends – something that carries on long after Elesa leaves the Venture to return to Starfleet Headquarters. 2379: Elesa is promoted to Admiral and offered any position within Starfleet. She begins a second term as Chief of Starfleet Operations on Earth. 2384: Elesa retires from Starfleet. She joins the diplomatic corps with the intention of becoming a Federation Ambassador. 2390: An assassination attempt is made on Elesa’s life while on Earth during the christening ceremony of the USS Redemption. She narrowly escapes death due to the intervention of Lieutenant Rhyan. Zal is instrumental in Rhyan’s future assignment on board the USS Redemption. 2391: With no individual willing to take up the office of President of the United Federation of Planets, Elesa steps in temporarily as Federation President. She does this knowing that without a President, the Federation would likely descend into a civil war. Zal dies on Earth in 2391 following an infection by a virus designed by the Confederacy of the Underdark. The Zal symbiont is passed on to Lieutenant (JG) Aeryn Tigan.
