The USS Archer was a sovereign class vessel commanded by Captain Timothy Franklin.  While on patrol of the Romulan neutral zone his ship was ambushed by the USS Imperium, under the command of Vice Admiral Caleb Severide of Sixth Fleet.  A battle ensued and Captain Franklin ordered the Archer's crew to abandon ship.  Captain Franklin then proceeded to separate the saucer section from the star drive and the star drive to self destruct.  He then maneuvered both sections of the ship close to the USS Imperium and triggered the star drive's destruction.  This disabled the Imperium which was forced to flee before the task group the USS Archer was attached to had time to respond to the Archer's call for help.
