Azura sat behind his desk, looking over the reports that had come in recently. The initial scare with unknown ship which had tenuous ties to the Iconians worried him. His mind raced at the possibilities which at this point any link to the Iconians as they had been believed to be extinct for many millennia would be tenuous at best. He sipped at the tea on his desk as he closed his eyes and ran though the possible ramifications if the ship was Iconian. It caused a slight panging behind his eyes and he stopped.
"I'll let the brass worry about them." he said to himself as he instructed PALLAS to begin war gaming scenarios where the Inconian link might become important.
A couple of days back, Tanya Petrovna has gotten her physical exam done by Doctor Kolmak. She knew she was going to be seeing the Captain any time soon when he receives the news. She is feeling a little nervous after receiving a message to report to the Captain's Ready Room.
As soon as she arrived at the Captain's door, she straighten her uniform and took a deep breath. She touched the button to chime him.
He looked up and spoke. "Come." he stood as he placed the PADDs he had been reading down on the desk and shifted his whole attention to the person coming into his ready room. As the doors parted he took in the teal departmental strip on her uniform sleeve and the Senior CPO rate on her collar.
"Ah, Senior Chief Tanya Petrovna I presume?" he said motioning for her to take a seat.
"Yes, sir," entering, she took a seat. Her nervousness was still there.
He nodded at her and spoke "Do you need something to drink perhaps?" picking up on her uncomfortable demeanor he wished to put her at ease before continuing.
"Black tea would be fine, thanks."
He nodded and headed to the replicator to fetch her some tea. Once it was ready he picked it up and returned to the desk offering her the cup and saucer.
"Thank you, sir," accepting the dish, Tanya took a couple of sips. She has a slow feeling of getting comfortable, seeing that the Captain doesn't appear to be one that bites. I must be here because of the doctor's report, she wondered.
Azura nodded to himself and then took his seat again. "Chief, you must be wondering why I called you here today. It is regarding the fact that Doctor Kolmak has placed you on light duty. Would you like to tell me why, I ask only so I can ensure you aren't assigned to duty that might place you in undue harm."
Tanya blushed. "I didn't expect this to happened after I boarded this ship with a few weeks of work, sir. I didn't mean to put off my physical exam, but I was afraid of anybody knowing about my condition with a mechanical kidney. I'm not one that cause trouble...," pausing to swallow, "I've been bullied on the last ship and my fear is over me...I'm a private person, sir." She held her cup with the saucer still.
He nodded "Well I can see how that would warrant light duty." He paused then continued "Should anyone bully you I will expect you to let your supervisor know. If the matter is not corrected after that my door is always open. That kind of behavior is looked on poorly on this ship Chief."
His reassurance has made her feel more secure with him as well as with Doctor Kolmak. And getting more comfortable. "I've been told by the doctor," she nodded. "I certainly understand, sir."
He nodded "Excellent, how are you finding the Redemption so far Chief?"
"So far, so good, sir." She glanced at her cup, realizing that it was starting to get cold and placed it on the Captain's desk. "I love languages and love to translate for others. I don't think I would have much work restriction with doing languages. I will avoid the holodecks because of physical restrictions."
He nodded "It is pleasing to me that your settling in so well. Ill keep you off of any away teams until you've been cleared for full duty. Is there anything else you need Chief?"
"No, sir. I hope things go well," giving him a tight smile with a small nod of her head. She stood up straight. "Thank you for the tea." She put her hand out and wondered if it is appropriate to handshake a high ranking officer.
He tugged at the gloves he wore to make sure they were on and stood to take her hand, placing his other hand over the back of hers they shook quickly before he nodded to her. "If there's nothing else Chief, your dismissed. Thank you for your candor about your condition."
She just noticed that he was wearing gloves. Does he have a fear of touch? She wondered and decided not to ask. "Nothing else, sir. Thank you, sir," she turned to walk herself out of his office to get back to quarters.
