On:

Nathan sat behind his desk with his head bowed under the strain of so much pressure. He had to find the hidden connections that made sense of the chaos that was this civil war. He looked up and rubbed his temples, he could feel the pressure building and the mother of all migraines was coming. He had been having more of them lately, no doubt a side effect of the stress he'd been under since the death of G'ath two years pervious.

He grunted to himself as the temple rub did nothing to lessen the pain in his head. He grunted again as he seemed to almost hear a strained whine at the very edge of human hearing. It was then that the alert kalxons sounded inside his office and his eyes snapped up to the door. The lighting dimmed and SPARTAN appeared before him.

"Sir, an unknown ship has appeared in orbit of Earth. It has deactivated our defense systems and absconded with the children." SPARTAN's holographic form flickered slightly as if from sudden interfearance.

West's eyes moved from the door to the hologram. "Gone?" He blinked "Dispatch security personnel and assign all assets to capture the ship... Gaaaaaahhhh..." He grabbed his head and crumpled against the desk as a wave of searing hot pain pierced his mind.

He gasped in ragged breaths as he pushed himself up off the desk forcing his mind to work through the pain. "Capture the ship... Bring the... Ch... ildren... Home." As the hologram acknowledged his orders West crumpled out of his chair to fall to the floor unconscious. The dog whistle pitched hum eminating from the metallic cube on West's shelf intensified.

---Thor's Office

Admiral Thor moved quickly back to his desk to look down at the readouts from across the Star Fleet Compound. There had been a break in but from all he could tell what was missing was 46 kids. Some Star Fleet Officer's children's and some civilian. It was perplexing that anyone would target children with only limited ties to Star Fleet.

He had ordered the anti terrorist Fast Response Teams be deployed and all Star Fleet Bases and Instillations be locked down until what had happened could be fully understood. It was then that a spike of pain caused him to freeze for a half second. He blinked and begain to trace the silvery thread that bound his mind to that of his sister. He shook his head, no, the pain didn't originate from her. He begain to breathe again.

He closed his eyes and focused, it would have to be a fairly strong emotion and quite close for it to reach him through the mental barriers he had erected over a century and a half. He turned to the east.

"There." He said softly to himself as he headed out of his office down the corridor of Headquarters to the sometimes office of Nathan West. Thor blinked and tilted his head like a curious puppy at another flash of pain followed by an almost nauseating telepathic... he didn't know the proper word presence wasn't right but it was the closest he could come up with. As quickly as he had felt the nausea it vanished and the pain subsided. He pressed the button to request entry and after thirty seconds overrode the door. It hissed open to the soft moans of Nathan's voice.

"No.. no... what right.. what right did I have to survive?" As Thor entered the dark lighting cloaked him in shadow and he heard the half mumbled half moan of his friend laying curled up knees to chest on the floor behind his desk.

"No.. the children.." there was a sob "the children are gone.. the future wiped away.." another heart wrenching sob and Thor made his way closer, something felt wrong about this office.

"Nathan, Nathan it's me." Thor's bass voice almost rumbled in against the walls of the room but it did nothing to jar the other man from his misery. Thor tried another tack "Admiral West, your presence is required." Nothing but more moans and mumbled words. Thor hesitated as he pulled on gloves before placing a hand on the shoulder of the man and shaking.

~Shora, get to Nathan's office in our building.. something is dreadfully wrong.~ at that moment Nathan's eyes snapped open and he grabbed Thor by the shoulders, eyes wide but clear.

"Admiral! The Creche is empty!" Then he fell back down to the floor, limp but for the faint rise of his chest.
