1,020 words; about a 5 minute read
Mission:
Empty Creche
Location: Lia's Quarters/Engineering
Timeline: Current
Lia returned to her screen after disconnecting the call to Ashcart. Her mind was in a fray. She knew that even though Lazarus' wife was only strongly suspected, Lia knew she didn't know enough about the wars between whispers and shadows to really think of anyone else. Lia made her report of her findings and sent a message to Doyle, Sheridan, and Barron that she found something important, and then headed towards the ready room. Despite her current rank, she knew there were things that only she would be able to help with. Her connection to SFI, for starters....
Maggie received the message, surprised that Lia had asked her to go to the captain's Ready Room. But she figured it must be important, so closed out her report and headed to the turbolift.
Nicole received the message that the new 'hacker' had found something. Part of her worried what exactly she could have found, given her limited and heavily monitored access, but part of her was hoping she could shed light on what the hell was going on.
Barron was sitting behind his desk when PALLAS appeared.
"Captain Petty Officer 1st Class McCarthy has requested an audience with you, Lt. Commander Doyle." The holographic woman said simply.
"Very well have them meet me in the conference room." He said closing his computer display and pushing away from the desk to rise.
She coughed "Sir the Petty Officer requested the meeting take place in your ready room."
He paused, blinked and grinned "Well at least I don't have to get up. I assume this is occurring soon?"
PALLAS nodded "All parties are on their way as we speak."
Lia managed to get to the Ready Room faster than she thought. she had a silent thought of congratulations to herself as it seemed she was finally getting the hang of the layout of the Redemption that she could get to wherever she needed to be. She knocked on the door. "Captain, Petty Officer McCarthy reporting sir."
Barron heard the knock on the door and looked up. "Well that is unusual he said to himself "Come" his deep basso voice rumbled as he put aside the PADD he was reading and the doors swished open.
A minute later, Doyl arrived and rang the chime.
Lia and Doyl entered at the same time. "Captain, I have found a lead on our current mission. However, you arent gonna like where it leads." Lia passed him the PADD with the initial details and her notes from the call with Ashcart. Everything was marked with SFI BLACK file cover sheets with various eyes only classifications.
"Hello, captain," Maggie said, nodding to him as she entered.
Barron nodded to the Commander and looked at the PADD, his eyebrow raised as he got further down the intel sheet. He looked to Lia, "A wife of a SFI officer is responsible?"
"Yes sir. Ashcart confirmed this based on the access and entry codes used at the time and site of the kidnapping. Im working up a dossier but it'll take time. Woman is a literal ghost, even SFI doesn't have much on her and the bit it does have is extremely locked down under level 5 access. I can punch through but dont expect anything fast. If I can use Pallas it might help and I wanna see if ashcart might let me borrow spartan as well. In the meantime, I've got a code to build and a hell of a system to break."
"You can't do everything yourself," Maggie said politely to Lia. "While we're not all intel, we do have skills that can help with anything that is not above our pay grade." She raised an eyebrow. "Or was this just to inform us of what you plan to do?" The last was said with a smile to show she was not criticizing the other woman.
"Simply what I intend to do commander. SFI is obviously holding back on us. Think about it. A Black operative is either on an op or gone off script and then sends us to go chase them down without even a hey by the way? All of which is more time the kids have been gone and who knows how much they have left. This is the fastest idea I have. So I shared what I intend to do. If you have better, put words to it and I'll execute." Lia was trying to keep her voice level. She had a bone to pick with SFI on her own, but she didnt want that getting in the way of saving those kids. She could deal with Ashcart later.
Barron cleared his throat "You mean the wife of a Black Operative. While we can not rule out the involvement of the individual your referring to neither do we have evidence that he did it. What we do have is circumstantial evidence that he might have been involved. If he had done this I doubt there would have been much of a trail left behind. So let's not jump to conclusions prematurely."
Maggie addressed the captain. "We need more information to know how to handle the situation when we catch up with the ship," she said. "And we will need to form a game plan. While I do not doubt that Ms. McCarthy knows her business, she cannot do this alone."
Gabe nodded "I concur work with Sheridan and PALLAS if the information is to classified for the mundane colored tunics. But get us the information, if need be I'll contact Admiral Ashcart and see if he can't decrypt the info we need to make this mission work."
"Thank you," Maggie said. "I don't want to go into this blind."
Barron nodded "Nor do I. The last thing we need is to get hit with another sucker punch from out if there blue."
"We'll do our best." She just hoped it would be enough.
