Now that the ship was on its way, Maggie needed to report in and meet the senior staff. There was a lot to learn before she felt comfortable in her new role. Her first stop was to the Captain's Ready Room to meet the Captain and introduce herself.
She rang the door chime and waited.
Azura had just sat down behind his desk after giving the bridge over to Rhyan. His eyes flicked up to the door and he called out the magical words that would allow the door to open. That is he almost called out "Open sesame" but instead schooled his features and said calmly.
"Enter."
Maggie walked in and gave the Captain a friendly smile. "Hello. I am Magdalena Doyl. I apologize for my tardiness."
He stood and extended his hand to the chair directly across form him. "Ahh nice of you to join us Lieutenant Commander. " He said deadpan "Please take a seat, might I offer you some refreshments? "
"Thank you," Maggie said, sitting down across from his desk. "And no, thank you, on the refreshment. I'm fine."
He nodded sitting down after she did. "You come highly recommend Commander, I look forward to seeing what you can do for the ship. What do you think of her so far? "
"I must admit, I haven't seen much yet." Mostly because she was too busy trying to catch it, " but it has a nice feel to it."
He nodded the faintest hint of a smile tugging the edge of his lips up. "She is home. Your task is to protect our home, please let me or Commander Rhyan know if there is anything you require to facilitate that duty. Speaking of how do you find your department?" He asked as the shimmer of PALLAS apperaed behind the Commander, dressed in her normal attire.
Maggie glanced at the personage behind the Captain, then back. "So far it seems fine," Maggie replied. "But I have a big learning curve ahead of me. Is there anything specific you need from me or my department?"
He nodded "Keep us safe and don't turn out to be a traitor. I'm easy to please don't ask much, do I?"
She shook her head and chuckled. "No, not much at all. I can promise not to be a traitor, but keeping everyone safe...I'll do my best."
He snorted "That's all I ask Commander. Did you have anything for me? "
"Not yet," Maggie admitted with a grin. "But I'm sure I will before much longer."
He nodded to her "Have you been introduced to PALLAS? "
She glanced back to the personage. "No, I haven't."
He nodded "I assume you will lean on her heavily as she is connected into and in a very real way is the Redemption. The 6th fleet activated her when they had possession of the ship. Without proper transfer orders or a single member of the senior staff her hostile takeover subroutines kicked in. She was invaluable to me when we took the ship back. Though I will admit her creator took liberties with her appearance."
The woman in the corner cocked an eyebrow "That I'm not in a Star Fleet uniform is more a blessing than a hinderance." The woman smirked "You would be surprised what people say in front of me thinking I'm a simple hologram."
"Fascinating," Maggie said, then grinned. "So what do you do?"
"I allow a small number of individuals to temporarily crew the ship by monitoring and assisting with primary systems and controlling secondary systems. I have access to all critical systems and can operate them. However my main drawback when handling all the systems of the Redemption is I lose efficency with each system I have to control. Now that the ship is mostly crewed I can provide enchanced assistance within each department. When the captain retook the ship it was I who handled weapons and engines. I served as a command and control unit interfacing the USS Nova amd Onyx Shadows systems and incorporating the strengths of each ship into a powerful operational unit." The AI paused "In short I assist department heads and should the crew of the redemption be rendered incapacitated I have security subroutines to assist with returning the ship to friendly hands."
Maggie nodded as she quickly thought over what was said. "What precautions do you have against tampering with your subroutines?"
"Alterations to my subroutines require authorization and presence of the Commanding officer and Chief Scurity and Engineering Officers to assent. Other than that I have leeway to alter my programming but not the prime directives hard written into my primary mission parameters."
Maggie nodded approval. "Good. I would hate to have someone take over the ship and use you against us."
The woman snorted, a singular feat for a hologram as they do not use lungs. "The 6th fleet attempted to do that. They thought I was helping them but in reality I was setting the ship against them. An exploding EPS conduit here, and malfunctioning air lock there. It was really quite enjoyable watching their engineers try to track down the 'malfunctions'. They didnt know that in order for me to accept a new Commanding Officer, there are certain conditions that must be met. However, my programmers were quite..." the woman paused to think of the proper word "paranoid that someone would gain control of the ship through me. That is why they also placed a fail safe that will lock out my systems and shunt my programs completely to the isolated computer core. In effect removing me from the Redemption's systems all together so I cant wreak havoc on the ship should my programming become corrupted."
"Excellent." Maggie grinned. "I think I'm going to like working with you."
Pallas nodded "Hopefully it will be uneventful but given the Redemption's past exploits I'd wager we will be working together quite a bit."
Maggie nodded in agreement.
Azura smirked to himself as the two women spoke back and forth and he liked the quick mind of the Commander. Assessing weaknesses and possible threats the ai presented and relaxing slightly at the safeguards. She would do nicely.
"Pallas if you would escort the commander to her offices and quarters I would appreciate it. Provided you have nothing more for me Commander?" Azura said.
"I'm good for now," Maggie assured him. She stood and inclined her head to the Captain. Then she followed Pallas out the door.
Azura watched her exit and then turned to the PADDs that scattered across his desk, he picked up one to look over. It held the information on the system they were headed to, Hadronus.
