Reporting Aboard

ON:

As the shuttle approached the Redemption, Joran gazed out of the viewport. "Big ship..." he said to no one in particular. "Hell of a lot bigger than the one I just transferred from." This would be his first posting as a Chief Engineer and he was looking forward to it. Riding shotgun in the co-pilot's seat, he glanced over at the cute pilot he had been assigned. She handled the shuttle like she was born to it. "You assigned to the Redemption?" he asked. "Yes sir," she answered. "Shuttle pilot, obviously." This last was added with a grin directed at him before turning her attention back to her flying. Alexei took this time to look her over. Red hair and green eyes with a really nice figure from what he could tell. Not that it would probably matter much to him. She was a non-com and therefore most likely off-limits as far as he was concerned.

=/\= Shuttle 3 to Redemption inbound with our new Chief Engineer. ETA one minute...=/\= she called out.

=/\= Understood, 3...=/\= came the response. =/\= You will be landing in bay 1. Will you be requesting a tractor? =/\=

=/\= Uh, that's a negative...=/\= his pilot responded, before looking at him and saying "No pilot worth her salt would ever make a bay landing with a tractor beam."

Joran said nothing, but simply smiled and nodded as he watched her fly. She brought the shuttle into the bay and landed it precisely in the middle of the landing zone, then turned to Alexei. "It's been a pleasure, commander..." she said, giving him a bright smile. "Maybe I'll see you around sometime."

"It's possible since we're assigned to the same ship," he said in a noncommittal tone as he stood up and moved toward the exit. He quickly grabbed his Starfleet duffel and stepped outside, then saluted the ensign who was obviously the Officer of the Deck.

"Lieutenant Commander Alexei Joran, Chief Engineer..." he said quickly. "Request permission to come aboard?"

"Permission granted sir," the ensign responded as he returned his salute. "Welcome aboard."

"Thank you. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to report to the captain." Walking a few paces away from the OOD, Alexei tapped his combadge. =/\= Lieutenant Commander Alexei Joran to Captain Ashcart. =/\=

Azura was sitting on the bridge looking over the diffrent stains and reading the displays about how the ship was progressing towards being ready when his combadge chirped.

=/\= Ashcart here, go ahead.=/\=

=/\= I've just arrived aboard, sir, and need to report to you at your earliest convenience. =/\= Joran responded. =/\= When and where would be a good time for you? =/\=

=/\= Ah yes my ready room when your ready will be fine, and welcome aboard. =/\= Azura looked to the Lieutenant that was manning the ops station and said simply "You have the bridge. " before turning and heading to his ready room to await the arrival of his new Engineer.

=/\= Aye sir, =/\= Alexei acknowledged. =/\= I will be there shortly. =/\=

====== Ten minutes later ======

When Alexei arrived at the captain's ready room, he rang the chime and watied for admittance.

Azura's voice unlocked the door and allowed it to part as he said "Come."

Hearing the captain's call, Joran entered, strode directly up to the captain's desk, then came to attention. "Lieutenant Commander Alexei Joran reporting for duty sir..."

Azura stood and nodded to the man "Its a pleasure to have you aboard Commander. I hope your service here will be enjoyable."

"If the engineering department is half as impressive as what I've seen of the ship so far, I think I'm going to like it here," Alexei said. "This is the largest ship I've ever served on."

Ashcart grinned to himself and decided he wanted to see the engineer's reaction himself. "Oh she is at that the largest so the fleet has fielded. As for impressive, I'd like you to meet someone. " Azura looked over Alexei's shoulder and said "Pallas, what is the current status of the ship?"

The image of a Grecian goddess flickered into life armored in an ancient kit of armor. Helmet pushed back on her head, shield resting gently against a leg and spear gripped lightly in a hand.

Alexei turned to follow the captain's gaze and blinked as he saw what appeared to be some sort of Greek or Roman goddess forming. "What the hell...?" he muttered.

"Current status of the ship is most departments are operational. We are on schedule for our estimated departure time of 1300 hours today. All offensive and defensive systems are deactivated but should be operating at 100 percent efficiency..." Azura nodded and said "Thank you Pallas." The image ofthe woman stopped soeaking and stood there bythe door waiting to be addressed again. Before turning to Alexei "We're also the first ship to be equipped with a fully integrated AI. Her designer was a little creative with her appearance but it is pleasing to have our own patron deity. " The was a slight hint of a grin to Azura's face as he ended.


While attempting to process what he had just seen and heard, Alexei turned back to the captain. "I just have one question--can I get one of those in engineering?"

It was Pallas who answered. "I am monitoring all decks and have a physical pressence in all critical locations of the ship. The usurpers did much to harm the ship but they also activated me and expanded my reach to all systems on the ship as well as install holoprojectors on each deck."

Azura looked at the commander and said simply "That's a yes you get her in engineering."

Pallas added "Hopefully you will be more inclined to listen to my advice than the fools in the corps of engineers were."

"Believe me, I will gladly accept all the help I can get in engineering," Joran answered. "So yes, I will be glad to listen to any advice you may have."

Azura paused before nodding "Is good you're not as hard headed as some. For now Commander I want you to get engineering squared away and make ready for departure. If you need anything feel free to coordinate with our chief Ops Officer. Do you have any questions? "

"Not at present," Alexei replied. "Although that may change once I've had the opportunity to examine the engineering department thoroughly," he added with a grin.

Azura nodded again and stood uo from behind his desk "Then let's not keep the Ship waiting. I look forward to your first impressions, mind you we haven't had an engineer in a while so be gentile. " The only hint of amusement on Azura's face was a slight tightening around his eyes.

"Aye aye, sir" Alexei said, giving the captain a salute before turning and heading to Main Engineering.
