Errand of Mercy
Location: Unknown, USS Redemption
Timeline: ED 8: 0900
The room was dark as only the screen in front of Olivia Strathmore lit her face, otherwise she would be just a voice, but a voice without a face was powerful. This was the nature of her assignment on the Redemption, she was a voice, with many faces...none of which anyone knew the true identity.
"PALLAS, open a secured comm link to the Master please." Strathmore requested.
West was interrupted by SPARTAN. "Sir, incoming transmission from Judas." West's eyes flicked up at the name of the newest member of the company.
"Set the scene SPARTAN and put her through." He leanded back and waited for the lights to fade and the backlight to turn on which would suffice his body in shadow.
"This is the Master, report Judas." West said as the link snapped into place.
"Master, I'm afraid I have troubling news. It appears Maverick is once again playing to her name. This could cause problems for us." Strathmore reported.
"How so?" Came the terse response. He had just spoken to Commander Severide and she had seemed on board with the plan.
"She went dark for thirty minutes, no doubt she confronted Tempest on the dark star. She's too unpredictable sir, and holds no loyalties." Olivia replied.
"I am aware she has no loyalties save her own interests. Get to the point Judas." West was growing mildly annoyed.
"I know you're planning something and it's gonna backfire. She's fire, you can't control her Master!" Olivia raised her voice in frustration as she pleaded.
"All the time Judas, let me worry about getting burned. You just make sure she is on that transport when it leaves."
"She is not our only problem. Blackburn is asking questions. She just confronted Ashcart and Severide about Tempest and Sierra." Olivia commented.
"Monitor the situation, but Blackburn is Ashcart's baby. He will handle her. Your mission stays the same, monitor and report." West replied.
"Why did Severide rescue Blackburn? It isn't her M.O sir. She only acts in her own interests." Olivia asked. It was a question that had been burning on her mind for quite some time.
He sighed "She didn't, from the report I've read she simply facilitated the good Majors return to the ship. Her rescue was effected by other assets in the area."
"Geri Severide is no facilitator, not unless something was promised to her." Strathmore countered phrasing the statement as if it were a question.
The shadow rubbed his eyes "She is still an officer and one in intelligence, her job is facilitation. It also helps when a company asset appears to request help personally."
"Appears?" Strathmore questioned. "Why would a company asset have interest in Blackburn?"
"Ask Blackburn what happened, or use your access to read her report. No one said that the asset had an interest in helping her. I was, in fact, displeased with Tempest for that but I understand why he did it."
"If I may sir. I think their are too many cogs in this machine now. One is bound to fail and I believe it will unravel whatever it is you are doing. Severide, Marshall, Cadet Scott, Blackburn. It's too much for one person to handle. I would be lying if I didn't admit I do have concern for you sir." Strathmore admitted genuinely.
He nodded "Your concern is noted and appreciated, but that dissent change your orders. Monitor and report."
"I understand sir." Strathmore sighed having gained no more answers. "Do you have interest in any specific targets?"
"Negative, just keep me posted on all happenings."
