701 words; about a 4 minute read
Mission:
Errand of Mercy
Location: USS Redemption, Chief Science Officer's Office
Timeline: ED3 1400
ON
Ferreno had his ever present PADD in hand as he approached the Science Department; he was here to do a follow up on the supplies delivered from Cargo Bay Three; the team that had the least amount of efficency and he wanted to see if the degree of mistakes were limited to the Cargo Bay or did the personnel that delivered the materials in proper order.
Heading into the Science Department he made a direct line to find the Chief Science Officer.
"Commander Rhyan." Ferreno began. "I am the new Chief of Operations Sular Ferreno, I was logically following up upon the deliveries of supplies from the starbase to assure that all the requested materials arrived?" He offered the PADD for inspection.
"Welcome to the Redemption," Rhyan responded, eyeing up the other Vulcan as he inspected the laboratory. It had been a long time since he had worked alongside another Vulcan - albeit they were both of joint ancestry - and Rhyan wondered how their different upbringings would dictate how they interacted with one another during their mission. Although he had pointed ears, and 99.8% of the genetic makeup of a pure-blooded Vulcan, Rhyan was unmistakably a completely different entity to his mother's ancestors. For this reason, he often found dealing with other Vulcans - including his mother - painfully difficult.
The storage containers that littered the lab all appeared to be be in order. Along with the usual provisions provided by Starfleet before an errand of mercy, Rhyan had requested that Starfleet Medical provide him with samples of all the unusual viruses in their collection that could not be readily replicated ship-board. His eyes lingered over the stasis-field container that held over two-hundred different viral pathogens that he could study in his attempts to solve the Hadronus crisis, and the fate of his friend Elesa Zal. Content that everything he required was present, he once again addressed the Operations officer, "I am satisfied that the correct shipments have been offloaded to my department. Would you give my thanks to the team that delivered them to me - transferring these hazardous samples could not have been an easy ask for them."
Ferreno held the urge to give the human reply to this as he did with a majority of his cohorts of the crew; it was gradifying that the Science Chief apprechated the efforts. He gave a nod of acknowledgement.
"I will relay your sentiments to the crew that did the delivery. It is gratifying to know we achieved our objectives to your satisfaction." He was trying to be more like his mother.
"I am gratified to hear that my crew achieved their objectives to your satisfaction." Ferreno said while holding back the slight grin. "It would seem that your department has the harder task of unpacking and stowing the items." Ferreno nodded an acknowledgement. "I believe that operations is a support organization and that the various departments are like our customers and we strive to achieve maximum customer satisfaction. So in the future when you need ops I hope to give you the same degree of service as this time, Sir."
Rhyan smiled back at his colleague. He found the man interesting. "I hope so too. Hopefully we will not require too many trips back home to retrieve rare and deadly viruses. On that note, is there anything else I can help you with?"
"Not at this time, I was just checking to assure your Departmental requirements were being taken care of." Ferreno bow slightly. "If you have no further requirements I will continue on my rounds to verify the ship is running efficiently, Sir."
"Not unless you know how to sequence RNA," Rhyan commented, his grin still evident.
"No SIr; I will leave that to you and yours." Ferreno said as he turned to leave. "Peace and Long Life."
"Live long and prosper," Rhyan said, raising his hand in the traditional salute to bid the other Vulcan away. He watched as the lieutenant commander departed the laboratory and immediately returned to his research - anti-virus sample 2-0-4 was not going to create itself.
OFF.
