The Admiral scowled as the torpedoes missed the Chekhov. “Fine have it your way. Lock all weapons onto that carcass of a ship, target their warp core.”
The Imperium lit up once again, this time all fire directed at the helpless Prometheus class vessel.
As the hulk of the Roman dissipated the barrage from the Bismark, Archimedes, and Atonement grew. They could tell it was having an effect on the hulking ship's shields and a glimmer of hope began to grow in Sokolov's mind. The only question was, would it be enough? A second pulse went out from the Atonement signaling a change in strategy, the other ships pivoted and strafed the top of the Imperium as they moved to form up on the Atonement. As the ships maneuvered the Checkov reappeared and pounded the top of the dreadnoughts shields as it moved from aft to stern answering the new orders.
“Target annihilated.” The Imperium's tactical officer reported.
“Dorsal shields at 50%” Titus added.
“Target the defiant, full spread, on my order.” Severide watched the tactical display waiting for just the right moment. “Fire.”
A stream of quantum torpedoes flew from the Imperium’s launchers towards the Checkov as it passed in front, it darted side to side successfully evading the first couple but the little ships luck ran out as the remainder slammed into its aft shields and sent it spinning out of control as one of it’s impulse engines was taken out.
As the Checkov spun away it engaged it's cloak and disappeared from the battle zone. That left the Atonement, Bismark and Archimedes to continue the fight. Sokolov thought furiously as she ordered her ship to continue it's rotation to keep stronger shields facing the Imperium.
With the Checkov disengaged, the Admiral turned his sights to his next target. "Helm, match course and speed of the atonement. Lock phasers and torpedoes on their engines. How long until the polaron cannon is charged?"
"Forty-five seconds sir." The tactical officer replied.
"Continue firing all phasers and torpedoes, focus on the Atonement and alert me when the polaron cannon is ready." Severide replied, looking at the screen as the chaos of battle unfolded before his eyes.
Two lances of energy shot towards the Atonement, one from the Bismarck the other from the Archimedes, beams calibrated to recharge the shield emitters of the large ship and give it an edge. The Atonement twisted on it's x axis as lances of phaser fire concentrated on the front of the Imperium. The Bismarck and the Archimedes responding to a new order from the Excalibur class ship.
Sokolov looked to her XO then to the Conn officer.
"Conn!" she barked "Put us on top of that ship and keep us there. They want to destroy us, make them take our warp core breach down their throat. Tactical, full spread phaser fire I want us rotating firing arcs so we always have something hitting that ship. Bridge to Engineering, I need to to shunt as much power as possible into the weapons system. Over charge the phasers." she paused and twisted to look at the Marine detachment liaison "Launch all fighters, delta formation have them form up on both the Bismarck and Archimedes and coordinate fire. We cant let this ship get out of this system."
--Imperium--
"Admiral! The Atonement is attempting to position itself above us, matching course and speed." The Conn officer nodded.
The Admiral raised his brow. "Well that's new. Let's see them keep on top of this. Tactical, activate multi-vector assault mode."
"Sir!" The tactical officer protested. "We have not tested it yet!" The officer's alarm was justified. Never before had the MVAM system been tested on such a massive vessel. The ability to do so was an engineering marvel and to this point, no one was certain the ship wouldn't simply tear itself apart.
"Do it." Severide growled.
"Aye sir." the tactical officer replied hesitantly.
The Imperium slowed abruptly as it prepared the separation sequence. The Klaxons blared through the labyrinth of corridors in the vast ship, alerting the crew of the impending separation. The ship itself continued its assault on the Starfleet vessels, however maneuverability was slowed as the sequence progressed.
Sokolov watched the tactical display on the screen and nodded as a new plan formed in her mind. "Tactical, track all pieces of that ship. Find the one with the weakest shields. If we destroy one they cant reform. Signal all air wings and the remainder of the Battle Group to do the same. Conn, stay above the one were on. If we get unlucky and they do destroy the Atonement I want them to take that breach point blank. Prepare tractor beams to hold the one we are on top of in place. It just got a lot less massive."
The massive hull of the Imperium began to separate forming three very distinct pieces. The three hulls still matched the size of the larger Federation vessels, but would allow the hulking mass greater maneuverability.
"Sir, the Atonement is focusing on Beta section." The Imperium tactical officer noted.
"Still think we can follow all the pieces, let's make more! Signal the fighter squadrons, go for launch." The Admiral calmly commanded.
Moments after the command, a swarm of fighters departed from the bowels of the beta section and began to target the Federation vessel.
"Conn, Attack pattern Omega three, focus all fire on the atonement, phasers on rotating frequencies." Severide barked.
The three sections of the Imperium departed from one another with incredible speed. Beta section, nearly covered now by the Atonement raced towards the Bismarck, volleys of torpedoes hammering the front of the Sovereign-class vessel.
