I figure there will be several as we update, test, fail, fix, reupdate, test, fail, fix, until we get something good. :D Give you plenty of stuff to work on.
I feel like for now at least this is a good point to wrap this one and make it a part one of the series and we can open a new one when the simulations have borne fruit and such; at that point we can also incorporate other players as the situations fits.
ON
Sarah brought the R&D holodeck online after two days of fine tuning and optimizations, as well as redesigning everything so that the Holodeck was fully integrated with her VI as well as the ships systems.
She stepped out of it and went to one of the R&D terminals that tied directly into main engineering, monitoring its power draw and then tapped her commbadge, seeing a spike in power levels.
"Graesyn to bridge"
"Barron here, go ahead Graesyn." Gabriel's voice responded over the ship's intercom.
"I've just brought the R&D Holodeck online, Captain. Power draw readings down here are showing an abnormal power draw... Can you confirm that reading?"
Not doubting the readouts she began inputting calibrations and optimizations as she waited for the response from the bridge.
A few moment's later Barron's voice could be heard over the comms "It's veried by the bridge crew. The readings are the same."
She finished inputting her calibrations and monitored the power flow as they began to take hold, watching the scale rapidly drop off and then stabilize. She cocked an ear to listen to the soft hum of the EPS conduits before keying her commbadge again.
"Those recalibrations should have dropped off the extra power flow. What is the first area that the Redemption needs reinforcement and improvements? We have full access to all current and past records concerning the advanced species that Starfleet has encountered, both hostile and friendly."
"I would suggest the modified 6th fleet weapons that they have been using against the fleet. Eventually we will come up against them." Barron replied.
"Acknowledged, I'll pull up known specifications for them as well as the shielding being used... I have a few ideas that may give us an edge but I have to warn you Captain; they are a tad unorthodox."
"Outside the box thinking is good Lieutenant. Keep me posted." Barron said.
"Understood Captain, if you are available tomorrow I should have some simulations to show you then."
she went to the primary console, pulling schematics and information on everything the 6th fleet had from power distrubution systems all the way up through weapons and shielding and started poring through the specifications looking for ways to improve the Redemption's defenses. While she perused the data she keyed communications again. "PALLAS, how is the integration of your submind going? I am going to need the R&D computers up and running fully sooner rather than later and that includes your submind; I would like to start running simulations that will be logged locally here."
PALLAS appeared and tilted her head "The creation of my submind has been completed. I am currently going through diagnostics to make sure it is stable and able to perform the tasks of liaison between your Loki and the rest of the ship as well as serve as a secondary AI interface for the local equipment. I would estimate two hours before the submind is ready to be integrate..." she paused "Scratch that she is ready to be installed at your leisure Lieutenant."
"Then go ahead and work with Loki and install her and fully integrate her PALLAS. Once she is installed start running simulations with Loki on the experimental Type 15 Transphasic Tricobalt Torpedoes that I have sitting in the system, once you are finished alert the captain that the results are ready for viewing at his leisure while I work on some shield upgrades" as she spoke she smiled slightly and input the data on the first part of the shield upgrades.
PALLAS nodded "Will do Lieutenant. Will you require any more of me while the submind is being installed?"
"Actually PALLAS, yes. The Captain wanted me to start work on the 6th fleet weapons I would like to start running simulations on them against our own weapons with some modifications; I am inputting the modification suggestion parameters that I would like you to run experimental simulations on now"
She pulled up a file on a PADD that she had sitting on a desk in the back of the room, looking around and breathing a sigh that was full of both hope and concern at how empty R&D currently was. After a moment she started inputting specifications of modifications based on reverse engineered Borg weapons and their ability to modulate at random intervals and speed to overcome enemy shielding.
"Okay, you have the specifications PALLAS and Loki has access to the algorithms I used to calculate them so he will be able to help you make adjustments on the fly; when you have the simulations ready for me please project them to the external holo-display in the corner of the main R&D bay"
PALLAS nodded and tilted her head as she went over the information that was sent to her about the modifications.
"Low level simulations can be ready in ten minutes. If you wish a more thorough set of simulations that will take approximately two hours thirty minutes at current usage levels." PALLAS said.
“Go ahead and run full spectrum simulations with an eye toward potential integration with current ship systems PALLAS; utilize the integration framework from LOKI to assist and when simulations are complete please send a copy of all data to the Captain's ready room; he will want to see what we come up with here and if he gives his approval I suspect its going to be a lot of quick work on a short time frame so please also generate suggestions for how we might be able to expedite integration.
PALLAS nodded "Very well Lieutenant. I will generate the reports once the modeling is done."
