Mission:
Errand of Mercy
Location: Chief Councilors Office
Timeline: ED 4 - 1600

Azura walked the halls of his ship as they floated above the planet below. He walked and passed door after door his mind elsewhere as he moved. When he stopped it was before the office of the Chief Counselor, as his eyes read the plaque outside the door and tilted his head and thought.
"No, no I haven't met him yet." he shrugged to himself and pressed the button to ring the chime. "Might as well since I'm already here."
"Come in!" A voice called out from inside. The doors swished open to reveal a man with bright red hair wearing a purple jumpsuit. "Welcome, captain, I've been wondering when you were going to cross my doorstep."
Azura crossed the threshold of the doorway and nodded to the man. "I was just headed to my quarters and thought I'd take a turn around the ship. Found myself here and realized we hadn't met formally. With all the chaos of us getting underway I missed a few senior officers." he paused "How are you finding the ship?"
"I tagged it with a locator beacon that responds to the doodad on my key chain. Worked great when I forgot where I parked Gram's car at the mall, so I figured it would work this time." said Evander with a wry grin. "Other than that, it's normal, I've lived on ships since I was born, excluding the time I spent at University and Academy. What's more important is how are you, Captain? How are you finding the ship?"
Azura raised an eyebrow. "I do so hope that you don't loose it in space. As I understand sound waves travel poorly which will render your device rather... ornamental." As Azura pondered the second question he sighed softly "I get the feeling you and the General should get together and compare notes on me. "
"A bit of levity to diffuse any tension," Evander said with a dismissive wave of his hand, "Sometimes humor, especially a sense of the ridiculous, can be the staunchest wall to protect oneself from going insane. Why do you think comedians have persisted in being popular throughout history, often able to get away with things that would get other men killed. The court jesters were given leeway beyond the ken of normal men, so long as they were able to keep their jokes funny to the right people. Sometimes it's what we need more than anything else." Evander took a sip of his coffee and sat back.
Azura almost smiled but schooled his face to remain expressionless. "Councilor you needn't insult me by saying I was employing humor. Im vulcan sir, we are humorless." His tone was as dry as the deserts of his home planet.
"I've known Vulcans who would give lie to that whole emotionless rigamarole, and why would it be an insult? All races feel emotions, Vulcans just suppress theirs. One only needs to observe part of that time to know that. I'm not someone who you need to hide them from, I'm here to help the crew as a whole, especially the senior staff such as yourself." Evander cocked his head and grinned.
Azura nodded "Good yes we do suppress or emotions. It is pleasing to know you are familiar with the subtleties we Vulcans have. I look forward to working with you but at current I'm under the care of another councilor. I'm undergoing a peer to peer program to assist with repairing the trauma suffered from my incarceration and subsequent torture. I think you would enjoy talking shop with my current councilor."
"Someone aboard the ship, I would hope, just in case." Evander rose to shake Azura's hand, "If you change your mind, I'm always around and I don't bite... Well, most of the time, there was this one Klingon lady..." Evander grinned with a faraway look in his eyes.
"Indeed, the General is on ship, though if you bring that issue up to her she may well go off the deep end. Apparently the brass took my refusal to leave space dock until I spoke with her as invitation to snatch her out of her house and quarter her on the ship." Azura almost smirked at the memory "As for your biting, just keep it on your time and we'll be ok, and keep security out of it please. That's the last thing I need, an inter-departmental pissing match."
Evander laughed, "Yes, well, as Chief Counselor, I'm always on call, but I'll at least keep it out of the hours I'm officially on duty, I prefer not to mix business and pleasure if at all possible. It of course depends who draws my lot to be my counselor as to who I'll share any juicy details with, though. Usually I tend to use the bartender at the lounge. Amazing that they don't get paid more." Evander thought for a moment. "It varies from ship to ship, but is the Chief Counselor a bridge crew assignment on this ship? Usually it's up to the Captain, and I've had it go both ways in the past."
Azura nodded "You are part of my senior staff, as such I expect your presence and council on the bridge during missions and at senior staff meetings. As for your uniform when on duty you can wear the star fleet uniform or if you feel that civilian cloths will allow you to 'feel' the crew out easier you can wear that as well. Ultimately I prefer to allow my chief councilors leeway to make them feel comfortable and as such I've found that they can serve the ship more efficiently."
"Works for me, I'd rather that than be the red-haired stepchild." Evander said with a grin. "Much more fun to be in the thick of things making yourself useful than to be delegated to cleaning up the messes behind the scenes."
"If you want redhair I'm sure that the barber can accommodate." Azura said half jokingly "Yes, I'd much rather have you in the thick of it keeping the messes from happening." Azura breathed in deeply then nodded "Do you require anything of me?"
"Not yet, but who knows what the future will hold, patting his bright red hair."
