Maggie set up an appointment to meet with the new counselor. There was so much to do right now that she'd almost forgotten one of the key evaluations she needed to complete before they got much farther from the starbase. It wasn't that she minded meeting with the counselor, it was more that she was so busy right now it was hard to find the time.
She walked into the counseling center and looked for someone at the front desk to help her.
Evander rose from the couch in his office and came to the lobby when he heard the chime go off. "Welcome, Ah, you must be Maggie, much lovelier than your head shot from starfleet would indicate, but then, I think those people get trained in taking the worst pictures possible, don't you? Come along, we'll take care of you in my office, much more comfortable there than in a waiting room where anyone could walk in." He said the last with a wink and a genuine grin. "It's not every day that senior staff comes in without some help from your department."
Maggie chuckled. "I don't know, there's a definite appeal in not looking like your id photo," she said, following the counselor.
"I suppose, if I were trying to avoid law enforcement, or some such." Evander mulled, "Though if it were you, I might give up pretty easily." He smiled at her as he waved her into the room ahead of him, "After you,"
That comment caused Maggie to laugh. "I'll make sure to send a male officer if you ever become a fugitive from justice. I wouldn't want to take unfair advantage." She walked into the room and took a quick, assessing look around.
"Well, that takes all the fun out of me trying into get into trouble, then, doesn't it. " mulled Evander. "Though I do suppose it wouldn't cause much trouble if I gave up right away. Maybe I should start jogging more so as to be able to give them a good bit of a chase before they catch me?"
"Might be a good idea. You never know when you'll need to run away," she quipped. "So, now that I know you're going to get into trouble, what do you want to know about me?"
"Oh, but I have been evaluating you, and I do have to say that I'm impressed so far. You've been even tempered and have a good sense of humor, both of which make you better at dealing with the stresses of the job. Too often security officers are too serious, which tends to a more brittle psyche if they cant find appropriate methods of release." Evander paused, "Though it does make me sad that I won't have an excuse to set up regular visits with you. You are of course welcome to visit whenever you like, though if it's for professional business, calling me first so I can have a head start would be appreciated."
"Thank you," Maggie said. "I'll remember to set up an appointment next time." She raised an eyebrow and asked, "How have you found the Redemption so far?"
"I keep a very good map close at hand in case I ever have trouble finding it." Evander said with a grin. "It isn't a bad ship, i've really only started exploring it and still have a lot to learn about the people and layout. I do need to check out the nightlife as it were, the lounge and other popular activities. On one ship I used to be on, there was a regular pool party held in one of the holodecks once a week. A bit of fun in the sun, as it were."
"I hear some of the officers hang out in the lounge. You might want to consider starting a weekly pool party. See if the Captain is up for it," Maggie said. "It might be good for morale."
"Either that or Paint ball, Its sometimes funny how the most meek of people turn into absolute savages when they know there's no real danger. Then again, I like to see what people keep hidden. Makes my job easier." Evander said with a wink.
"Now that is something I'd do," Maggie said. "Paintball can be a good way to train people on a lot of different skills, including how to work as a team."
Evander smiled, I'll see what I can do to set things in motion, then." Rising, he took Maggies hand in his own to shake farewell. "I look forward to working with you, Maggie."
"As do I," Maggie said. "See you later."
