Mission: Empty Creche
Location: Marine Department
Timeline: ED 1, 1800 (Backpost)

ON:

The new program that has been implemented by Doctor Kolmak, was just the beginning with fewer than four crew members, only three from the marine department. He started the program after he realized that every time the away team leaves and comes back, the injured has lost precious time getting the treatment right away.

Since the new Captain has come aboard, he a doctor himself, has suggested a plan to help rotate the combat medics the detachment has through the star fleet advanced life-saving courses, has gotten Mikail to rethink about expanding the program.

After walking several decks, Doctor Kolmak entered an area that he has never set foot into. The Marine Department. He viewed the room looking for the woman by the name of Major Blackburn. He has met her once in sickbay for a physical exam but has forgotten her face.

Blackburn was sat on a small chair in the corner of the reception area still in civilian clothes. She had plonked herself there since the meeting with the new Captain, thinking hard about her decision to stay. The Marines working nearby had learned long ago to give her a wide berth, as they did so now, and she had been left alone for some time. Her attention wondered to the man who had just entered the room. A part of her mind not engage on her active thought process assessed him and immediately decided to ignore him.

As soon as he found the face of the woman sitting off to the side, his memory of the face came back to him. To him, she appeared to be in a strange mood by the look on her face. Bad mood? Since the issue belongs to her department as well as his, he is bringing it to her professionally. "Major Blackburn, if I remembered correctly...", seeing a different appearance of her in civilian clothes, he continued, "I'm Lieutenant, Doctor Mikail Kolmak from sickbay and I need to speak with you."

She glanced back at him. Ever since her encounter with Starfleet medical the previous year and their attempt to 'fix' her, Blackburn found she had little time for the medical profession. She took a moment to decide what to do. "Hello Lieutenant Mikail Kolmak from sickbay." She eventually said. "Sickbay, is two decks up. You appear to be lost."

"Lost?" He frowned at her comment. Her attitude appears to show alright. "I didn't come here looking for directions, major", emphasizing on her rank. "This is a professional matter on the medics in your department that need to be up-to-date on their skills. Is there a problem?"

"Don't worry. They say Officers can't read maps anyway. Me, I'm always lost." She smiled insincerely. "I have medics. Not sure they're professional though. We Marines are better at breaking things than fixing them." She tapped the side of her temple. "Bit dumb, leathernecks."

"I can read a map just fine. We are better at fixing, not breaking things...," feeling a little irritated by her short attitude. It subsided quickly and continued. "Well, I'm here to talk about expanding the medic program. The new ones need to spend a little bit more time for education. All I'm asking is for two or three times a month for hands-on. We doctors shouldn't throw our lives on the line or go to every call for away missions. Leathernecks or not," he was a bit confused on this new word for his second language, English.

"Why not?" She asked. "My understanding is that Doctors die just as easily as the rest of us. You have an open invitation to come along and get slaughtered for the cause any time you like."

"That's just a little harsh to say...slaughtered," he shook his head. "It is mandatory for the medics to report to the medical bay twice a month or three. If this is a problem, do speak to Captain Barron. I'm following under his orders as he wants the medic program to be enhanced." Mikail wasn't sure if she was serious or kidding. He pulled out a PADD to look up some information. "Your medical record shows you are not up-to-date with your physical since you boarded Redemption. Want to tell me why?"

"Do what you want with the medics. Make them dance and sing a jolly song for all I care. As for your question, I do not."

Seeing that she still has the attitude, he decided not to pursue the question again and decided to leave it up to the Captain for her physical examination. "I will send the schedule to your PADD once we have the names for those who are interested in the medic program. I have nothing else to discuss. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me."

Mikail didn't wait for her to answer or make a comment as he turned to leave the marine department. Cassandra was a difficult person to deal with and he doesn't spend much time with people like her. Marine commanders can be too stiff. Maybe she was brought up with a bad childhood, he wondered. She should see a counselor.
