Checking in at the top

Mission: Empty Creche
Location: Captain's Readyroom

OOC: his ready room is decorated sparsely at the moment but he does have his marine stripes and medals won during his stint in the corps during the dominion war. The rest is typical fleet greys and a few generic tapestries.

Lieutenant Ha'Kir Kahlim pressed the button outside of the Captain's doors and awaited the response. He had been on board for a few days, but had not had the chance to make his way to the Captain's ready room to make a formal introduction.

Gabriel's eyes flicked up to the door "Come." he said as he looked back down to the PADD and put it away as the doors swished open.

Ha'Kir entered the room as the doors swished open before him. As he walked towards the Captain's desk he took a moment to look around the room and took it all in.

The young Strategic Operations Chief was more taken aback by the man before him than anything else. He found it odd to meet a Klingon doctor, even odder to meet a Klingon doctor that was in command of a Starfleet vessel. However, being a Starfleet officer means being in the business of what's "odd".

"Lieutenant Ha'Kir Kahlim, reporting in, sir" He said as he stood at attention before his Commanding Officer. "I've been on board for a couple of days, but I have not had the opportunity to report directly to you, sir." He continued.

Gabe waved a hand dismissively "In all honesty Lieutenant I dont know if I would have had time before now to see you. Please take a seat, would you like some refreshments?" He asked standing and moving to the replicator.

"Oolong tea," He replied as he took a seat before the Captain's desk. During his time at the academy he bad become accustomed to the Terran beverage. Although it was less sweeter than tea typically found on Betazed, he had still developed a fondness for it.

Gabe nodded and instructed the replicator to produce the tea. He picked it up and turned moving to the Lieutenant and offering it to him. "So tell me, Lieutenant, how do you find our fair ship?"

Lt. Kahlim accepted the drink and took a timid sip while adjusting to the heat. It was still confounding to him how replicators still never seemed to get the exact taste correct. It was hard to articulate, but genuine tea and replicated tea were light years apart from one another. He looked up at his Captain and realized that he was awaiting a response.

"The ship I believe is quite capable for a one-of-its-kind Excalibur vessel." He said as he took another sip. "However, I question whether this mission is worth the considerable resources that are being diverted to it." He said pointedly. He had reviewed the mission briefing shortly after coming aboard. While he sympathized with the parents, he could not understand the logic in sending the Federation's most powerful vessel deep into enemy territory by itself for a small-scale extraction mission.

Barron shrugged as he sipped his own drink "Ours is not to question why, ours is to but do and die.' However we are tasked with rescuing any citizen of the federation, especially children. While I understand your misgivings we will execute our orders to the best of our abilities."

"I would expect nothing less." Lt. Kahlim said as he took a sip. "How exactly are we to carry out our mission?" He asked having not been able to attend the original briefing.

"As it stand I have a group working to isolate the warp signature and get us a barring. From there we pursue until we find the ship and retake the children. Preferably we take the individual responsible, alive to stand charges but dead will do too. They hit us at the heart of Star Fleet, that's got the brass worried."

Lt. Kahlim nodded as he sipped the final contents of his glass. "I would like to assist the working group. I have experience in isolating subspace radiation in order to decipher warp signatures based on the rate of decay." He said. "In terms of the individual responsible, sir." He said as he set his glass down.

"Anyone who would go to these lengths is looking to prove a message. I doubt such a figure would allow himself to be taken willingly. I hope Starfleet adjusts its expectations accordingly." He said.

"Dead or alive." Barron responded "I think there expectations are fairly well calculated. If we cant take them alive we must take the children alive."

Lt. Kahlim nodded in agreement. "Yes sir." He stood and nodded. "If there is nothing further, I'll get started." He said.

Barron nodded "Sounds good Lieutenant and I'm happy to have you aboard." he grinned widely which showed off his typical Klingon teeth.
