Maggie walked into Operations and looked around for Commander Ferreno, hoping he wasn't too busy for a brief chat about security.

Ferreno was going over the rotation schedules for the Gamma Shift personnel, there was a slight diviation in their productivity and basically needed a little 'shaking up' to make things better in his opinion. When he noticed the Security Chief in OPS.

"Is there something I can do for you Commander Doyl?" Ferreno said as he went to meet her. "I am Sular Ferreno, at your service. " He offered a handshake.

"Hello," she said, shaking his hand. "I've actually come to ask your help. I have been told that it would be efficacious to alter all the security codes and tactical maneuvers on the ship."

"With a change of the Security Chief and rotation of crew having a specific set for this crew would be to your advantage." Ferreno said. "That would mean changing the computer protocols, I take it you would also like to have the safety protocols to just yourself, The Executive Officer and teh Captain for over-ride privileges?" Ferreno was sure to make it clear he would not force himself into these changes as it was not his place. "I can help you with the computer changes or assign someone if that would be more comfortable?" Ferreno gave a hint of a sly Grin. "Though I do have experience with keeping things secure from someone else trying to barge in to a computer core."

Maggie nodded. "I read your files." She knew of his work on the Ragnarok. "I also would like you to make changes to the communications. Make them harder to tap. Find a way to block unauthorized communications. Make it harder for anyone used to the way the ship used to run."

Ferreno thought for a second. "I think there is a key that will make it much harder to access the system via the old system would be locked out. All I have to do is purge the old database of users while reloading the current crew. That would put it to your department into a security protocol of having to be approved by Security and then I can approve the access to the Communications network. Then set periodic updates for operation."

"That would work," Maggie said. "I also want a new security system in place, just in case someone knows the old system and thinks they can break into it. A combination of the two should be adequate for our needs."

"I could help author a new program adptation that is unique to our needs." Ferreno gave a sly grin. "I leanrned a few trick; you know, sleight of Mirror side?" He offered. "Nothing like what they have ... here."

"That could help," she said.

"I am at your service." Ferrenmo said. "As Grandma Ferreno always taught me, never turn down a request from a lady."

Maggie chuckled softly. "I like your grandmother."

"That does make two of us." He added. "I think I can handle your request easy enough you have anything really hard in the wings I should worry about?" He asked.

"Not at the moment," Maggie said. "That's the most pressing matter. Oh, and I will probably need a secondary computer in case the main computer is compromised."

"Do you mean a moble computer core or a computer itself?" Ferreno asked. "You have a network so is this for your use or a contingency of Main Computer failure?"

"Yes," she said by way of an answer. "If the ship is compromised or loses power, or if the computer is hacked, we will need to have an alternate plan in place. I would like that to include a computer we could switch to and continue operations uninterrupted."

There are some mobile Computer Cores that are used when establishing a type of field head quarters, would one of those suffice for your needs?" Ferreno had an idea of where he could even install it from the plans of the ship he had gone over during transit."

"As long as it's secure enough," she said. "Let's just say I have a reason to be paranoid. "

"It will be secure I can assure you." Ferreno said calmly. "There is a place near the Battle Bridgethat I could insert it and make the needed connections." He continued. "WOuld that be enough for you as the Battle Bridge is connected to the main systems in a ready status should the main bridge be out of commission so that would allow me to splice into teh system as you require and place the requested system in place."

"I'd rather it not be connected to the battle bridge -- although that in addition to a separate system would be nice," she said. "This contingency is in case the ship gets taken over. Not likely, I know, but I want to be able to put a serious kink in their plans if anyone tries."

"The battle Bridge junction is where the main connections will be since the Battle Bridge is the second control center the computer will be linked but not 'in' the battle bridge." Ferreno explained. "We will be able to by-pass the Battle Bridge control from the main control console. If done effectively the painels will register the Junctions as active despite our having the control of teh ship. " He gave a grin. "It will be like hot-wiring the controls and leaving the lights on in the battle bridge. Until they check tha main Junction there is not way to tell we have control. With special safeguards to keep our speciied people in contrtol of the operations ship wide."

Maggie was aware of what the Battle Bridge was and how it worked, but if they could simply bypass it at the junction without anyone figurint it out too quickly, it could work well. Especially if it appeared to be working properly. "Yes, I think that might do nicely."

"I will have one reqrsitioned and installed at first oppurtunity." He began making adjustments on his PADD. "I will let you know when the unit is in place and ready to recieve the security programing after all the connections are completed." Ferreno explained. "It will be on the next duty shift's to do list and with two technicians working it I hope to have it done in two duty shifts ; including getting the unit and installation. It should be ready by Alpha shift in the morning."

"That'll be fine. Thank you," Maggie said. "I appreciate your help." She stood. "And now I'll leave you to your work."

"If you need anything please let me know." He smiled. "OPS is at your service; kind of in our job description."
