Who Was That I Saw You With?

Mission: Errand of Mercy
Location: Chief Engineer's Office
Timeline: Current - ED 5 - 0815

ON:

Alexei was sat at his desk, going over the morning reports, when he heard a cheerful voice. "Hey Chief--got a minute...?"

He looked up to see his assistant chief, Kerri Daxit, poke her head in the doorway leading to his office. "Sure Ker--come on in..." he said motioning her in. "Grab a chair." he added, motioning to one of the chairs in front of his desk. "Would you like anything from the replicator?"

"Raktajino, please--temp 45c," she said as she took the offered chair. "So what's on your mind?" he asked as he waited for her Raktajino and his Betazed dark roast special coffee. When they appeared, he carried them to the desk and sat her drink in front of her. Then, taking his seat behind the desk and sipped his coffee, studying her over the rim of his cup. "Well...?" he prompted.

"Nothing much," she said as she sipped her drink as well. "Beta shift was smooth last night except one little incident. Ensign Jeffries took a tumble down a vertical shaft and dislocated her shoulder. She was taken to sickbay and will be on light duty until tomorrow at 1600. Other than that, everything was routine and slow. In fact everything was so quiet I managed to sneak off to the lounge for dinner. Saw something VERY interesting while I was there," she said with a sly grin.

"Oh really?" Alexei said slowly. "And what was that?" He had a suspicion he knew what she was leading up to, but he wanted to hear it from her.

"Seems I saw a certain chief engineer having dinner with an absolutely stunningly HOT female." She grinned at Alexei. "C'mon Alex--tell me. Who was she. I might like to get to know her myself."

"I didn't know you were..." Alexei began, but Kerre cut him off. "Hey--old Kerre gets her fun wherever she finds it," she said. "Male, female, I like 'em all. So give it up. Who is she? She must be new because I've never seen her around here before. Come on Alex--tell me. Who is she..."

"Cut your thrusters and land, Kerre..." he said, making a 'slow down' motion with his hands. "She's Petty Officer Bianca Donati, the diplomatic officer and you're right, she IS new. Just reported aboard a couple of days ago. I ran into her day before yesterday in the lounge." He noticed Kerre's inquisitive look and knew she would want to know all about it. "I literally ran into her, causing her to spill her drink. I bought her another, then we shared a table and talked for a little while. Then, to repay her for causing her to spill her drink, I invited her to dinner last night and she accepted. I find her extremely interesting and knowing what I now know about you, I would consider it a great personal favor if you would...

"Okay, okay, I get it..." she waved him to silence. "You're warm for her form and you don't want me nosing around. No fishing in your pond..." she said. "I won't--at least not now..." she added with a wink. "But if it doesn't work out for the two of you then all bets may be off."

"Don't you have anything better to do than sit around here gossiping about who you saw where last night?" Joran asked in mock-seriousness.

"Damned right I do," she said as she drained the last of her raktajino and set the cup on his desk, then stood up. "It's called sleep because I have to be back here in eight hours. But if it turns out that Ms. dark and sultry doesn't do it for you then maybe you should try looking around your own area." With that, she gave him a cheeky grin, then turned and walked out.

Joran watched her as she walked out. Daxit WAS an attractive woman, there was no doubt about it. But for now his thoughts were focused on Bianca Donati and her exotic looks.

His next mission--should he choose to accept it (and he would accept it most certainly) would be to find out when he could see her again.
