Mission: Empty Creche
Location: Sick Bay

ON:

Sarah arrived back at Sick Bay after ensuring her belongings were settled in her quarters and went look for the Doctor.

"Hey Doc, I'm not a fan of waiting so lets get this issue with my spleen fixed quickly?"

"The nurses will get you prepped. Have a seat on this biobed," Mikail pointed. "Any questions before I leave to change my outfit?"

She looked at Kolmak and smiled. "Only question is how easy will I have to take it post-op?"

"About a few days," he responded.

"Understood, Doc. I will do my best but no promises on the ship not exploding and forcing me to act fast", she gave a slight nervous chuckle.

Mikail nodded. Seeing her behavior as if she appeared to be nervous, he put one hand on her shoulder as a gesture of compassion. "This is a very easy and quick fix surgery...done this many times." He removed his hand. "You will be good as new afterwards. Again, any questions?"

Sarah shook her head, forcing herself to take a breath to steady herself. "No, I have just never been a fan of being in sickbay all that often; I ensure that my physicals and such are up to date but otherwise I like to try and keep myself out of the doctors way" she gave a soft little laugh and without actually thinking about it one of her hands idly massaged her torso"

Mikail nodded and left her. It wasn't long when he came back dressed in surgical clothing including a mask and gloves. He gave orders to a nurse to bring the tray of surgical instruments and to start the medications to sedate her. "Sarah, count backwards from ten to one," he said, right after the nurse has injected the Propofol.

She quickly changed into the surgical gown that had been left for her; doing her best to cover the small myriad of scars that ran the length of her torso from a darker time in her past. Once she had swapped to the gown she laid on one of the medical beds and practiced breathing excercises, keeping her breaths measured and slow as she fought against a small surge of rising anxiety.

"Okay, looks like she is out now," the nurse reported as she placed surgical sheet over her torso.

"Now hand me the scapula," the doctor ordered as he observed the skin to where the incision will be done. Now is the time to start surgery while the medication is keeping her sedated. He doesn't understand why she didn't get this spleen taken care of before arriving as a new crew member to USS Redemption. To him, it seemed like being careless to the last minute when there is pain.

The spleen doesn't take much to repair the damage. The organ replenishes the body of new blood is one of the main function. He finished up with the tool, the regenerator, sealing up the tissues and skin to where it appears to be new. "How long has it been?"

"Eighteen minutes," the nurse answered.

He put away the instrument and pulled off his gloves. "In about two minutes, the medication will be worn off. I'm going to go change and come back to check on her," Mikail said.

When she woke she came to groggily but surprising to most anybody she shook it off quickly and carefully shifted to a sitting position on her own with only a small hiss of pain, looking around and being careful to ensure that the gown she still wore was held close to her body.

Doctor Kolmak came back in his duty uniform with a concern on his face which happened after seeing her sitting upright on the biobed. He immediately went to her left side and placed his hands on her shoulders to gently push her back down. "You must lay back down, miss Graesyn." He let go of her to pick up the PADD. "You must give in a couple of hours of rest and recovery. Seems like you are experiencing some pain after the sedative has worn off," he turned to look at the nurse who returned. "Give her one miligram of Terakine."

"Yes, doctor," the nurse obeyed.

My apologies Doctor, I find it difficult to lay idle. Too many years…” She shook her head as the Terakine was administered and took a long breath before carefully and slowly laying back down and turning her head to Kolmak.
“Would you permit me a PADD Doc? It would help me to feel less idle if I could at least do something remote”

“Sure,” the doctor picked up one from the counter and handed it to her. “This should help. You should try to nap as well. Any problems, let the nurse know.”

She worked for awhile, happily pulling up some of the projects she had been working on for R&D; it was only about an hour or so before she dozed off with the PADD laying on her chest, only lightly clutched in her hands.
